Who Bill Maher blames for #OscarsSoWhite is making liberal heads EXPLODE

Never known for his moderate stances, Bill Maher weighted in on the #OscarsSoWhite controversy on the most recent episode of his HBO show. After finding myself in agreement with Bill Maher’s stances on Islam and the refugee crisis, I can’t help but think the left has gone so far left it’s become too insane for Bill Maher.

As for his take, the Inquisitr reports:

Maher’s opinion is unique; he believes that movie studios have to make movies for a racist Asian audience.

Bill Maher was speaking with his panelist, Seth MacFarlane, a former Oscars host, on Real Time With Bill Maher, on Friday night. The conversation naturally moved to the #OscarsSoWhite issue. Although MacFarlane said that a thorough investigation would be required to know what is going on, Bill Maher was quick to speculate.

“The dirty little secret is most movies are made now with an eye to the foreign market, and Asians really are racist.”

Maher’s comments immediately earned some mild resistance from his other panelists. U.S. House Representative Alan Grayson half-jokingly shot back, “you just said they’re racist, that makes you racist.”

Bill Maher doubled down, explaining his reasoning.

“I’m just honest. They don’t want to see black people generally in their movies. The Hollywood executives are, like, ‘We’re not racist, we just have to pretend to be racists because we’re capitalists. We want to sell our movies in China (and) they don’t like Kevin Hart.’”

Panelist and Republican consultant Liz Mair followed up the initial comments saying, “You’re going to stoke a ton of outrage,” which was right on the money.

While his take is unique, to say the least, it fails to explain the controversy for two reasons. The first being that 94 percent of the Academy members are Caucasian (as noted in the article), and the second being that this controversy shouldn’t even exist in the first place.

As we pointed out here, 12.5 percent of Oscar recipients in the acting category over the past 20 years have been black – while 13 percent of the general population is black. So there’s really no under-representation there.

Even if there was some great racial imbalance in the Oscars – so what? Is anyone complaining about the racial imbalance in STEM fields, the NBA, or the Democratic primary? Let’s keep the Oscars being awarded the same way everything else is (theoretically) determined – by merit.
