Richard Dawkins became a household name following the success of his 2006 bestselling book The God Delusion. A man once respected as a biologist quickly rose to become the leader of what became known as the “New Atheist” movement.
As someone who’s read the book, I can confirm while it’s arguing against all religion, the bulk of the attacks are on Christianity.
But as the Middle East is ravaged by Islamic extremism spilling over into the Western world, he’s quickly realizing all religions are not equal, and he’s changing his tune.
As reported by Christian Today:
Despite spending years criticizing Christianity, well-known atheist Richard Dawkins is now admitting that Christianity is much better than Islam.
Dawkins even conceded that “Christianity may actually be our best defense against aberrant forms of religion that threaten the world,” according to The Gospel Herald.Dawkins noted that Christianity, unlike Islam, does not make use of violent methods to fulfill its teachings. “There are no Christians, as far as I know, blowing up buildings. I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I am not aware of any major Christian denomination that believes the penalty for apostasy is death,” he said.
He admitted that he has “mixed feelings” concerning the decline of Christianity, because this faith-based group might just be “a bulwark against something worse.”Judging by trends here domestically, he couldn’t be more right. As we previously reported, Christianity has been on a decline in America since the 1990s, and Islam is projected to be the nation’s second largest religion by 2050.
It’s a shocking trend. So much so it has even the world’s most famous atheist worried.
