Every gun control measure liberals want to advocate to the American public fails miserably. They can blame the NRA all they want for opposing supposed “common sense” gun reform, but the NRA wouldn’t be so powerful if it wasn’t for American support of gun rights. The NRA has a higher approval rating than Obama and Hillary (well, maybe that’s not saying much, but still…)
So since guns themselves can’t be targeted, liberals are going after the source. As Townhall reported (quoting from The Hill):
Gun manufacturers could be sued by victims of gun violence under new legislation from Democrats.
The Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act would roll back long-standing protections enjoyed by the gun industry that shields it from many lawsuits.
The bill would make firearms manufacturers and dealers liable for harm caused by the weapons they sell. The legislation is being circulated on Capitol Hill and could be released later this month, though it is not likely to pass in the Republican-controlled Congress.“Congress passed a unique form of immunity for only one industry — and that is the gun industry,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told The Hill in an interview. “If you’re a carmaker and your airbags kill someone, you’re potentially liable,” continued Schiff, one of the lawmakers behind the gun control bill. “If you’re a pharmaceutical company and sell faulty drugs, you can be held liable. If you’re a liquor store and sell alcohol to minors, you can be held liable.”
“Why should it be any different for gun manufacturers?” he asked.
The argument provided by Schiff must be the biggest false analogy of the century.
Car manufacturers are held liable for defective safety features – but cars still kill more people each year than firearms. Are they going to be held accountable for car accidents as well?
How about holding tobacco companies accountable for tobacco deaths, which kill more than fourteen times as many people as guns annually? And what about alcohol producers who sell to all ages? Alcohol kills much more than firearms too.
If the left is really interested in saving lives they would target alcohol, tobacco, and vehicles, all of which individually kill more than firearms. They’re not. They’re trying to score political points, and it’s at the expense of our constitution.
