It’s been such a great few days break for all of us, but we still do need to pay attention to what is happening in our country. I now understand what President Obama meant on Wednesday after the midterm elections when he stated, “I also heard the voices of the two-thirds of Americans who did not vote.”
Obama meant that he’d pay no attention to the results of the 2014 midterm elections and the electorate that voted. In other words, the number of those who didn’t vote emboldened him to believe that his agenda was acceptable — yes, I know, illogical.
And so what have we seen since the midterm elections? A president more determined to do as he wants according to executive actions — as per the illegal immigration reform action. Now, we have proof that Obama intends to take action regarding the GITMO detention facility unilaterally — something that Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 reserves as an enumerated power to the Congress — not the president.
As reported by the Washington Times, “President Obama is getting ready to release more detainees from the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to reports. After transferring five suspected terrorists from the lockup at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, or Gitmo, the Pentagon has said that more will be transferred out in December, the Wall Street Journal reported. The increased pace of detainee releases follows the abrupt ouster this week of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, who administration officials criticized to the newspaper for moving too slowly to empty Gitmo.”
This could also be one of the many issues that created friction between SecDef Hagel — who was forced to resign — and the Obama White House. We reported on the release of the most recent five GITMO detainees who found new residence in Eastern Europe — and they were covertly freed while the country was focused on Obama’s illegal executive action on immigration.
Looks like we, the people got a twofer there. And of course since we are talking GITMO detainee releases, where is Army SGT Bowe Bergdahl? His Army investigation has been completed for almost three months now — what is the resolution? Seems like the entire Obama administration agrees with Jonathan Gruber — that the American people are stupid and gullible, and these “intellectual” progressive socialists can do whatever they wish.So in the spirit of spreading holiday cheer, the Obama administration is about to unload over 3,000 new regulations plus Islamic terrorists — even famed fisherman Bill Dance couldn’t do “catch and release” better than the Obama administration.
The Washington Times says, “House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck P. McKeon raised an alarm about the uptick in notification of pending Gitmo releases at a recent hearing. Republicans have largely opposed releasing the suspected terrorists for fear that they will return to the battlefield. About 143 detainees remain Gitmo, which held as many as 800 suspected terrorists in the years immediately following the 9/11 attacks.”But it’s not just the GOP, which has opposed the GITMO detainee releases — this is an American issue. And what backs up the concern is a 30 percent recidivism rate of these fellas returning to the battlefield — the choice de jour now is ISIS.
The problem is we’re prosecuting this endeavor as an overseas contingency operation, as a police action, and not as a combat operation. This is not about arresting these individuals on the battlefield, and then coming up with evidence for some legal proceeding. These are non-state, non-uniformed belligerents captured on the battlefield — they are unlawful enemy combatants.
And based on Geneva Convention rulings, they’re only entitled to food and shelter — not first class medical care, satellite TV, brand new soccer fields, mountains of food, and private domiciles — heck we should place Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in charge.
Regardless, we should certainly not put political campaign promises above the security of our country — indeed the world — and release these savages. What message does that send exactly? As long as Islamic terrorists seek to engage and fight us — we MUST keep those captured off the battlefield.
Once again I must ask, what is the purpose of Obama’s release agenda? And to tell us these unlawful combatants pose no threat is not true — unless they’ve taken up Presbyterianism, knitting, and joined the Oprah book club, they pose a threat.
With a new GOP House and Senate majority coming back to Capitol Hill next January, it now becomes imperative that the legislative branch reasserts itself based upon its enumerated powers. We are either a Constitutional Republic based on the rule of law or we should stop pretending to be and do as the scholar Gwyneth Paltrow recommended — just let President Obama do as he wishes — heck, we’re pretty much already at that position.
When John Podesta resigned his position at the Center for American Progress to join the Obama White House, some thought this was to lay the foundation for Hillary Clinton. No one realized that Podesta’s expertise was in executive orders — we reported that to y’all here — and now we see the result, the end game.
I find it rather amusing that the progressive socialist left just dismisses all of this as hyperbole, but just imagine if this were a Republican president? They see Benghazi as a road to nowhere — when it seems to be a bipartisan debacle and cover-up. They see no problem with a president deciding that if he has to wait too long, he just does what he wishes — could someone please point that out to me in the Constitution? The left cares not that we’re sending fighters back to the battlefield — there has been no surrender of Islamo-fascists and jihadists, so there is no binding agreement of “prisoner” release.
I watched a new generation of brave young American men and women march in at Kyle Field this past weekend. I pray we will find our courage and march for liberty and true justice so these young people have a Constitutional Republic in their future.
Folks, and I don’t care what the detractors have to say — we are losing our Constitutional Republic, the rule of law and our system of governance to the whims of one man. My studies refer to the rule of one as a dictatorship.
