TURNCOAT: GOP congressman introduces anti-gun bill; we just discovered who’s funding him

There’s a very appropriate theme for politics: “follow the money.” As well, there are times when you realize political expedience and survival often overrule principle and the Constitution. So here we are after the Orlando Islamic terror attack and the prevailing narrative on Capitol Hill isn’t about defeating ISIS. It’s about defeating guns.

And that narrative seems to be a growing bipartisan issue.

As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, “Rep. Bob Dold (R.,Ill.), one of the Republican congressmen introducing a gun control bill on [last] Friday, received millions of dollars in support from Michael Bloomberg’s gun control PAC.

The Independence USA PAC, which was founded by Bloomberg in 2012, supports candidates who support stricter gun control laws. The PAC has been funded entirely by Bloomberg since its inception, according to Federal Election Commission records, and has supported just a handful of candidates who are mostly Democrats. Rep. Dold, however, has received nearly $3 million in backing from Bloomberg’s Independence USA PAC.

Bloomberg’s PAC put $963,477 towards direct mail services, media buy and production, and internet advertising in support of Dold in 2012. He lost his seat to Democrat Brad Schneider. During the 2014 election cycle, as Dold was attempting to recapture his old seat, Bloomberg’s PAC spent $1,925,410 on television and radio ads—the most the PAC gave in support of any candidate that cycle. His comeback attempt was successful.”

Everything comes with a price in Washington D.C. and it appears that may be the case here. Let’s be honest, all the indicators and warning signs were there in the San Bernardino and Orlando Islamic jihadist attacks, yet nothing was done.

I’m amazed we’ve heard nothing else about restricting fiancé visas from certain countries where Islamic jihadist groups operate freely — as was the case with Tashfeen Malik. Maybe that’s happened but I certainly didn’t hear about a legislative push emanating from Capitol Hill or the White House.

We know Islamist groups affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood operate freely on Capitol Hill and have access to the White House – in fact, they’ve been successful in purging training materials for our FBI and Department of Defense. And if you don’t believe it, ask Army Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Dooley. We shared his story with y’all.

No, it seems the easier thing — politically-driven — is to assail the Second Amendment right of law-abiding, legal gun owners — why?

Well obviously there’s big money for some politicians in this, as this story evidences. Why not focus on the issue of the threshold for being removed from the terror list?

And on the subject of guns, we’re learning about the actions of the state of Hawaii, as reported by Fox News, “Hawaii signed a bill Thursday to become the first state to enter gun owners into an FBI database that will automatically notify police if an island resident is arrested anywhere else in the country.

Gov. David Ige said in a statement that the legislation is about community safety and responsible gun ownership. He said it will help law enforcement agencies protect Hawaii residents and visitors.

State Sen. Will Espero, who introduced the bill, and the Honolulu Police Department said the measure could serve as a model for other states. However, critics believe gun owners shouldn’t have to be entered in a database to practice a constitutional right. Most people entered in the program, known as the “Rap Back” database, are in “positions of trust,” such as school teachers and bus drivers Stephen Fischer of the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division said in May. Hawaii is the first to add [law abiding, legal] gun owners.”

I hope we begin to understand the dangers here. We have a deep pocket multi-billionaire who is influencing federal legislators to enact his own personal ideological agenda.

Ask yourself, does Michael Bloomberg travel about without armed security? Further, we have yet another example of a government structure — municipality or state — enacting measures to “infringe” upon the Second Amendment.

Think about this for a minute. You’re a legal and law-abiding American who will now find yourself entered into an FBI database, without your consent, just because you’re exercising your unalienable Second Amendment right.

It’s amazing to me that we’re allowing progressive socialists — that has nothing to do with political party affiliation, but rather the philosophical belief in the relationship between individual freedom and the state — to impact and erode our rights by way of their personal largesse and unilateral government action.

We shared here the actions of the Seattle City Council — now we have a state passing legislation to place American citizens in a federal database. Unconscionable!

So, we’re going to put Americans into an FBI database under an Attorney General who believes our best response to terrorism is “compassion, unity, and love.” But we need to put to law-abiding and legal American gun owners into federal database, without their consent. Funny, Hillary Clinton’s IT fella can plead the 5th Amendment incessantly — but no Constitutional rights for the every day, average, law-abiding American citizen.

With Bloomberg, Soros and other assorted elected and non-elected officials, it’s “do as I say, not as I do.” No wonder so many Americans are in open revolt.
