It’s just not that hard to comprehend:
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Let me clue the progressive leftists and gun control nut cases in on something:
“The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.”
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to to John Cartwright, 5 June 1824
“To disarm the people…[i]s the most effectual way to enslave them.”
– George Mason, referencing advice given to the British Parliament by Pennsylvania governor Sir William Keith, The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adooption of the Federal Constitution, June 14, 1788“I ask who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers.”
– George Mason, Address to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 4, 1788So what part of this does the progressive socialist left not understand? How much more simple could it be for those who claim to be so very smart? And what’s disconcerting to me is that there is only one Constitutional right it seems folks believe they do not have to honor…to follow, to allow.
As reported by Fox News:
Mike Coombs feels like he is in the crosshairs of Seattle lawmakers, who this year implemented a special tax on the guns and ammo his Fourth Avenue store has sold for more than 40 years.
On January 1 Seattle began imposing a $25 tax on every gun and a 5-cent tax on every round sold within city limits. The stated objective was to raise up to $500,000 per year to fund programs to prevent gun violence. But Coombs claims the real effect is to kill his business, and a gun rights legal foundation is battling the city for figures it believes will show the law was never about taking in revenue.
“What they’re trying to do is get gun stores out of the city,” said Coombs, 48, whose Outdoor Emporium store operates in the shadow of Safeco Field and boasts of having “the largest selection of outdoor related products at affordable everyday warehouse pricing.”
Longtime customers have told Coombs they simply go outside the city now to buy firearms and ammunition rather than pay the tax, which he blames for the layoffs of two workers so far this year. Precise Shooter, a smaller gun shop in Seattle, moved 16 miles outside of the city to Lynnwood on the day the tax took effect.
“We feel that, basically, a crackpot politician was trying to buttress his ‘progressive’ credentials and we got run over,” owner Sergey Solyanik told MyNorthwest.com.
Solyanik was referring to Seattle City Council President Tim Burgess, who drafted the law providing for the so-called “gun violence tax.” The City Budget Office estimated the gun violence tax would collect between $300,000 to $500,000 a year, which Burgess said would fund gun violence prevention programs and medical research.
In my new position as a member of the National Rifle Association Board of Directors, it’s my mission to expose these clear infringements on the Second Amendment. These progressive socialists like Mr. Burgess think themselves very slick coming up with this measure. It truly reminds me of the British and the means by which they used taxation as a punitive measure to modify and alter behavior. This is why I refer to the modern day liberal progressives as the new Redcoats. They use taxation as a weapon of mass destruction in order to achieve their desired ends — ala individual mandate tax in Obamacare.
But this is without a doubt the most insidious and nefarious of all tax measures one could imagine. To come up with a tax that punishes law abiding Americans exercising their God-given, unalienable right to keep and bear arms under the guise of raising revenues for “gun violence prevention programs and medical research” — that’s complete bovine excrement.
We all can see through what Burgess and his acolytes are doing. They’re seeking any means possible to reduce the ability of an American to purchase a firearm. And who came up with the arbitrary $25 gun tax and 5-cent tax on every round? What will keep any other liberal progressive city from enacting a similar measure of onerous taxation?
Here’s the issue, how can five unelected justices on the Supreme Court create a new right based upon sexual behavior, using the 14th Amendment Equal Protection clause, and tell every State that they MUST conduct same-sex marriages (Obergfell vs Hodges case)? Yet, when it comes to the Second Amendment, states and cities can blatantly disobey that part of our individual Bill of Rights without any recourse? Shall we deduce that there is no “equal protection under the law” for law-abiding gun owners in the United States of America?
What the Seattle City Council is doing is completely unconstitutional, illegal. They are using taxation as a punitive measure to advocate an ideological agenda — a 5-cent tax on every round purchased?
Hey, leftists, the United States Constitution is not a tool to be bent as you please to further your ideological agenda. You cannot order the States to obey an ruling — remember, the SCOTUS does not make law. Nor can you allow states and cities to violate another individual right — the Second Amendment.
Matter of fact, what is this crap that my Texas concealed weapons permit is not reciprocated across the Country? I should be able to carry my weapon anywhere in this Country — after all, I am one of those who dedicated twenty plus years of my life to support and defend the Constitution, which a useful idiot like Tim Burgess seeks to undermine.
Let’s rally to the cause of Mike Coombs and have a weapons purchase day at his store in Seattle. And Mike, sell all the guns and ammo you want, minus the illegal tax being imposed. And if Burgess and any of his ilk try to bring charges against you…quite sure you will have an Army of American Patriots and lawyers coming to your aid.
We have to fight back because if you recall, the shot that was fired and heard around the world was all about gun confiscation in Massachusetts. The time is upon us when it was with Leonidas as the tyrant Xerxes and his invading Persian Army demanded the Spartans lay down their weapons.
They replied with “Molon Labe” in October 1835 when the Mexican calvary showed up in Gonzales Texas, they demanded their cannon back. The Texians replied, “Come and Take It.”
Hey, Timmy Burgess, like Bobby Bouchet said in the movie Waterboy, “we are about to open up a can of whoop ass.”
