The REAL reason Obama is dealing with Cuba that the media won’t tell you…

As we mentioned yesterday, you know you’re in trouble as an American president when Jimmy Carter says you haven’t done well in foreign policy. But if you’re Barack Obama how do you respond? Simple, you normalize diplomatic relations with the hard line communist regime in Cuba.

Now THAT’s an accomplishment, right?

As reported by Fox News, “President Obama formally announced on Wednesday that the United States and Cuba have both agreed to open embassies in each other’s capitals following more than a half-century of hostilities between the two nations. “This is a historic step forward in our efforts to normalize relations with the Cuban government and people and begin a new chapter with our neighbors in the Americas,” Obama said. The U.S. Embassy in Havana is scheduled to open on July 20, the Cuban Foreign Ministry said.

The U.S. and Cuba have been negotiating the re-establishment of embassies following a surprise announcement in December that secret talks between the global foes had led to a landmark agreement.

“As part of that effort, President Raul Castro and I directed our teams to negotiate the reestablishment of embassies,” Obama said. “Since then our State Department has worked hard with our Cuban counterparts to achieve that goal and later this summer Secretary (John) Kerry will travel to Havana formally to proudly raise the American flag over our embassy once more.”

I must disagree, there is nothing proud about having our American flag raised in a country that still has political prisoners. There is nothing proud about having the American flag flying over a country that is harboring Americans who have fled our nation and are guilty of crimes.

You know the famous definition of insanity as continuing to do the same thing and expect different results. So, should something change in the relationship with Cuba? Sure, but it should happen from a position of strength and moral high ground.

The Castro regime just got tossed a lifeline by President Obama. Heck, look at how we all do the kabuki dance around the Chinese? Boy howdy this is going to be a repeat. But here is my assessment: what is the easiest way for President Obama to shut down GITMO before he departs office? Turn it back over to Cuba, with whom we have normalized relations.

Yep, I can see it now, the pomp and circumstance of President Obama and Raul Castro walking hand in hand sitting at a table, signing a document, and Cuban forces taking over Guantanamo Bay. Of course the Cubans will be armed while our troops will be unarmed and forced to fly off the Island on Venezuela Airlines — y’all remember what happened in Yemen, right?

This will all be a diplomatic issue under the purview of the Secretary of State, John Kerry, some time after President Obama sits at a table and signs a nuclear agreement with Ayatollah Khamenei.

I guess it’s rather interesting to watch the Obama administration embrace Cuba and Iran while abandoning the Kurds, Egypt, and Jordan. It was somewhat despicable and hypocritical to witness President Obama sing “Amazing Grace” last week at the funeral services for State Rep. and Pastor Clementa Pinckney while Obama is allowing Christians to be slaughtered all over the world. I suppose those being beheaded, crucified and sold into slavery aren’t deserving of Obama’s grace?

Not everyone is willing to allow this foreign policy folly to go unchallenged.

“Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., has vowed to oppose the confirmation of an ambassador unless “substantive progress is made” on human rights issues that have dogged Cuba for decades. “Establishing diplomatic relations with the Castro regime without verified improvements in the [human rights] situation faced by the Cuban people would not be consistent with our values as a nation and the intent of the U.S. Congress, as codified in law,” Rubio wrote in a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry. While the president has power over establishing embassies, nominations for ambassador must go through a Senate confirmation vote.”

And of course since this would represent a new line item expenditure, there is also the power of the purse — which we hope the Senate GOP Majority understands. The Executive Branch, i.e. the State Department will have to secure authorization and then appropriations for the staffing, equipping and purchase of facilities — like where will the new Cuban embassy staff reside? There will have to be a Marine Security Guard detailed to the new U.S. Embassy in Havana — that will have to be authorized and appropriated. So this is not just like Ramses proclaiming, “so let it be written, so let it be done.”

But then comes the demagoguery by President Obama and of course, he believes he will have the complicit alliance of the liberal progressive media. You can expect the left wing media traveling to Cuba to have interviews with Cubans who will be thrilled, happy, overjoyed, excited, just giddy — all those things the Cuban government will tell them to say, or else. The liberal media will show how great Cuba is — like Michael Moore saying healthcare quality in Cuba surpasses ours in America. There will be documentaries and segments about what the Americans will bring to Cuba and last but not least — the selected Cuban who will haltingly say in English, “Thank you Obama.” Yep, y’all can see all this happening. And in the meantime, the agreement papers to transfer Guantanamo Bay to the Cubans are being prepared.

President George W. Bush’s administration increased travel restrictions and tightened the embargo with Cuba, but when Obama took office in 2009 he loosened them. Obama took it even further in 2011 when he undid even more Bush-era restrictions, which led to Americans being able to communicate more freely with friends and loved ones in Cuba as well as travel there for educational and religious purposes.

This is all just part of the fundamental transformation of America. We hug the enemies of freedom. Did President Obama make any demands on Cuba to release political prisoners of extradite those harbored Americans guilty of committing crimes here? So, Obama will claim a GREAT foreign policy achievement, having done something that no one else has done.

Which is rather like a sports team celebrating a losing streak.
