My take on rivalry week in college football

We are on the way back to South Florida after a fantastic Thanksgiving in Aggieland. We topped off the visit with a trip to the movies to see “Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1.” It was great to have the entire family together for such a nice time. For the life of me, I will never forget Lin speaking Chinese with President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush.

Well, this is the best weekend of college football: rivalry week. We got to see the 53rd “Border Clash” between Texas A&M and LSU. Today there are some very good clashes to include my alma mater Tennessee Volunteers taking on Vanderbilt — who have beat the Vols two years in a row.

We need this victory in order to give us the sixth win making one bowl eligible. It’s sad that our Tennessee seniors have never been to a bowl game — would be nice. And oh by the way, today I found out the Aggies will take on the Sun Devils of Arizona State in a bowl game in Houston. The other big rivalry game for me is the Kansas State versus Kansas game — which you just cannot throw away because of the true angst that exists. It would make the Jayhawks season to upset K-State and certainly ruin any chances to win the Big 12. It does look like Texas Christian will pull it out after trouncing the Texas Longhorns.

Well, there is a game that used to mean quite a bit that has lost a little luster — Ohio State versus Michigan — and Wolverines coach Brady Hoke will probably not be around much longer in Ann Arbor. As well, Minnesota will take on Wisconsin to determine who will play the Buckeyes for the Big 10 title.

But there are some other really big time rivalry games happening today. My home state, Georgia versus Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets would like a good win before going into the ACC Championship game against Florida State.

Speaking of which, the Seminoles will take on the Florida Gators and it will be Gators coach Will Muschamp’s last game — I would be very wary of the Gators who beat down Georgia when it was hinted that Muschamp’s job was in jeopardy.

Staying in the SEC, South Carolina takes on Clemson in the Palmetto State showdown – it’s all about recruits folks. But the two big games in the SEC are Mississippi State versus Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl — I gotta give the edge to Miss State.

But the big game in the SEC will be the “Iron Bowl” — Auburn heads to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. And if you all remember the game last year, the 100-plus-yard TD return for Auburn after a missed Bama field goal — you know that Bama ain’t forgotten. A win for Bama puts them into the SEC championship game against Mizzou as they won the head-to-head game against Miss State. I just have to tell you, as long as Bama has Lane Kiffin on the sidelines I can’t wish Bama good tidings — War Damn Eagle!

Well, we’ve already seen Arizona take down Arizona State. Missouri pulled it out against Arkansas — they’re quietly a consistently great team.

We land at 4:30pm back at Palm Beach Airport, so I’ll certainly be in front of the TV to get a recap and watch the Iron Bowl.

So, who you got in your rivalry game?
