Obama’s America: Flags ARE NOT Lowered for Murdered Marines, Doing This Instead…

On Monday, the UN Security Council voted unanimously, along with the European Union, to endorse the Iranian nuclear agreement — oh joy. Monday also started the clock for the 60 days allowed for Congressional review of the agreement.

I find it rather odd it was necessary to seek UN approval before that of the American people, through their representatives. Perhaps President Obama and UN Ambassador Samantha Power believe this strengthens their hand to force Congressional approval of this treacherous agreement. Imagine, we’ve given a clear green light to the crazed clerics of Iran — even as just this weekend, the Ayatollah Khamenei declared this agreement changes nothing about Iran’s behavior towards America. Just amazing.

And so Obama went before the organization of despots, dictators, theocrats and autocrats we call the United Nations for validation while Iran was still chanting death to America. But then again, Obama would respond that this is just politics and the Ayatollah is just spinning the whole thing — as if Obama’s not.

But it was just a happy day in Washington, D.C. yesterday, because another stellar country with an impeccable human rights record raised its flag and opened its embassy — Cuba. Yes, once again, Barack Obama can tout he’s done something no one else has. Imagine the display in his opulent presidential library that will display the signing of the Iranian agreement and the opening of the Cuban and American embassies. Oh joy, I can’t wait to see that exhibit.

As reported in USA Today:

Throngs of demonstrators gathered Monday to witness the raising of the Cuban flag over Cuba’s embassy, the first time it has flown here since the U.S. broke off diplomatic relations with the communist country 54 years ago.

As American and Cuban diplomats stood side by side, three Cuban guards in white uniforms marched out of the building, attached the flag to a recently constructed flag pole and raised it above Washington’s 16th Street, just 2 miles north of the White House, to mark the formal re-opening of the embassy.

The move signaled the latest, and most visible, step toward normal ties between the United States and Cuba. President Obama and Cuban President Raúl Castro announced in December that the two countries would end their five-decade diplomatic freeze.

While the U.S. Embassy in Havana also opened Monday, the U.S. State Department said it won’t host a similar flag-raising ceremony in the Cuban capital until Aug. 14, when Secretary of State John Kerry plans to attend. In the meantime, the department on Monday added a Cuban flag in a hall inside its headquarters along with flags from every other country that has diplomatic relations with the U.S.

Yes, I agree that insanity is defined by doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Stupidity is defined as trusting your enemy and believing kindness will be met likewise. Already, Raul Castro is demanding the return of Guantanamo Bay — which I believe is the real motivation behind this whole escapade by Obama.

My latter description of this folly was evidenced by:

After the ceremony, Kerry met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez at the State Department. Afterwards, Kerry said that although the two nations differ on basic issues ranging from human rights to political systems, both will be better served by engagement rather than estrangement.

“We are determined to live as good neighbors,” Kerry said.

“We can both cooperate and coexist in a civilized way,” Rodriguez said.

Both men alternated between speaking in English and Spanish.

Funny, it seems “coexist” is the liberal progressive buzzword of acquiescence to our enemies — the bullies. After all, can’t we just all get along?

So we still have a Cuba that imprisons political opposition. We still have a Cuba that doesn’t regard human rights and individual freedoms. We still have a Cuba that hasn’t released Americans there who sought asylum for crimes they committed in America.

John Kerry just played the role of the love-starved teenaged boy willing to do anything to get the girl who’s dismissed him. Kerry just confided that American principles and values mean nothing when it comes to the ill-conceived Obama administration desire to be liked. It is like the spouse who stays in an abusive relationship because their self-esteem is so lacking.

John Kerry and Barack Obama are not the keepers of the grail of American exceptionalism and greatness. They are the the seekers of acceptance by the world’s bullies, who will continue to beat them down and take their lunch money. Heck, why not just go ahead and open a North Korean embassy next door to Cuba’s? I’m sure Kim Jong little fat kid with the bad haircut would enjoy coming over and taking in a Washington Wizards basketball game with President Obama and his best buddy Dennis Rodman.

Doggone, I’d best shut up because Obama may just consider that another thing he could accomplish that was never done by anyone else — could make for another great exhibit in the presidential library.

Monday was just the continuance of more foreign policy mistakes.

I am here to see a day of infamy,” shouted Frank Calzon, executive director of the Center for a Free Cuba, a Washington group that opposes any opening with Cuba.

Another protester, Aimel Rios, said the new relationship will only hurt the Cuban people if the U.S. does not force human rights changes on the island, which stands to receive a financial windfall from increased American trade and travel.

“I came here to raise awareness about systematic human rights violations in Cuba,” said Rios, 31, who left Cuba for the U.S. in 1999 as a political refugee and is now a human rights worker. “If people are not free to carry out a strike, then how could they defend themselves against human rights violations?”

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush, a leading Republican presidential candidate, tweeted that engaging politically with Cuba “will only serve to further legitimize (the) repressive regime.” Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., said that diplomatic relations with the U.S. “are a privilege and must be earned,” something the Cuban government has failed to do by imprisoning 2,800 political activists this year alone.

I have one simple question: who’s paying for water and utilities for the Cuban embassy? And who appropriated the funding for opening and staffing a U.S. Embassy in Cuba? Heck, just gotta ask, will the U.S. Marine security force be allowed to wear their uniforms? Not one single U.S. taxpayer dollar should be used to support this “grand opening.” If Obama and Kerry want to coexist with a hardline communist regime, let them do so on their own dime.

But realize there are always delusional folks out there:

Outside the Cuban Embassy, college counselor Evelyn González said the U.S. should never have broken relations with Cuba in the first place.

The United States “should respect other countries’ sovereignty,” said Gonzalez, a Salvadoran-American. “The people in government of Cuba want to normalize relations. They will benefit because they have been strangled.”

James Williams, president of Engage Cuba, a non-profit group that supports normalized relations, said Congress should now move to remove the economic embargo against Cuba.

Yep, Obama is seeking to make Iran and economic power — why not make Cuba one as well? Sadly, our debt just keeps rising but this is the Bizarro World of Barack Obama, and his fundamental transformation of America.
