Obama got his Benghazi fall guy; now letting the rest off the hook

Well, it’s been close to 21 months since the Islamist terrorist attack at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi where four Americans — Ambassador. Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Ty Woods, and Glenn Doherty lost their lives.

And in all that time, well, we just nabbed the one fella who was a supposed on- the-ground ringleader. In a funny coincidence, it just so happens that Ahmed Abu Khattalah was part of the Islamist forces the U.S. was supporting — with arms — in the fight against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in Operation Zero Footprint. Khattala seems to have a connection with the 17th February Martyrs Brigade, loosely related to Ansar al-Sharia, who may have been assigned guard duty of the consulate.

According to a report by Adam Housely, “Despite President Obama’s promise to stay focused on hunting down those responsible for the 2012 Benghazi attack — and despite a recent arrest touted as a major takedown — sources say little has been done to nab the other suspects.

According to multiple sources on the ground, including some with direct knowledge of the operations to identify and hunt the Benghazi suspects, intelligence that could have been acted upon at times has been ignored or put on hold.

Further, they say, the recent capture of Ahmed Abu Khattala — now on a ship bound for the U.S., expected to arrive this weekend — was an easy one.”

Is this just another example of that sickness I referred to as Obama Attention Deficit Disorder (O-ADD)? It’s part of the disease strain related to BBDS (Blame Bush Derangement Syndrome).

“He was low-hanging fruit,” one source told Fox News. “We could have picked him up months and months ago and there was no change, or urgency to do this now.”

Au contraire mon ami, there was indeed an REAL urgency for the Obama administration to do this RIGHT now — for media distraction and to shift the focus from the countless scandals — not phony — plaguing the White House.

What is even more troubling is that Khattala is being treated as a common criminal afforded U.S. constitutional rights — he is an unlawful enemy combatant. Really, he is the Obama fall guy — how tragic for this fella. The good thing is that he will soon be lawyered up at U.S. taxpayer expense and possibly may still get to have mango smoothies as he awaits prosecution.

Fox says, “according to sources, the United States has a “target list” that initially contained about 10 suspects identified within days of the attack and eventually grew to more than 20 as American Special Forces conducted surveillance in and around Benghazi.

The four groups on the “target list” include Ansar al-Sharia, with the top target being the “Emir of Ansar al Sharia,” Abu Sufian Ibrahim Ahmed Hamuda bin Qumu. He was a prisoner at Guantánamo Bay for more than five years and at the time was classified by analysts at the prison as “a probable member of al- Qaida.”

Despite this significant threat to American security and allies, bin Qumu was released as part of an amnesty for militants in 2008. Sources told Fox News that intelligence has shown his involvement in the attacks, and actionable intelligence has for some reason been ignored.”

In this same group, but way at the bottom of the list, is, yep, you guessed it, Khattala.

As Fox News — the most trusted name in news — previously reported last fall, “American Special Forces on multiple occasions weren’t allowed to go after harder and more important targets, even though they had multiple chances and opportunities to do so over the course of 16 months.”

“Ansar al-Sharia is saturating the whole region of eastern Libya with money, training and personnel. They are now the biggest organization in town,” one intelligence source said. “[Khattala] is the actionable guy and the target, but the [al-Qaida] network is much larger. He is tied to terrorists throughout the region by our guys on the ground. Overall he [Khattala] is small potatoes to the larger al-Qaida and terrorist network in the region,” said another intelligence officer.”

Of course, one can only hope that Mr. Khattala did provide some useful intelligence — but nothing we didn’t already know.

It seems that the apprehension of Ahmed Abu Khattala will go over about as well as the Rose Garden announcement of Bowe Bergdahl coming home — heard anything about that episode lately? Didn’t think so, just another case of O-ADD.
