We can continue to dismiss it but there is a concerted effort to gather ISIS fighters from Western nations. And we just found one of those recruiters here in our country. According to a report by Fox News, “An upstate New York man has been indicted for allegedly trying to recruit fighters for the Islamic State, paying for their travel and even buying guns, according to federal prosecutors. Mufid Elfgeeh, 30, of Rochester, was indicted by a federal grand jury on three counts of attempting to provide material support and resources to the group widely known as ISIS that has been designated by the U.S. as a foreign terrorist organization, federal prosecutors said late Tuesday. Elfgeeh, who was born in Yemen and is a naturalized U.S. citizen, is one of the first people accused by the U.S. of recruiting on behalf of ISIS.”
Separately, the New York Post reports that “supporters of the Islamic State terror group are being urged to attack Times Square and other popular American tourist attractions with easily assembled homemade bombs, according to a disturbing report Tuesday. A message posted on an ISIS Web forum lists widely available ingredients needed to build a pipe bomb, and includes photos showing how to combine them into a deadly explosive device, Vocativ reported. The message is titled “To the Lone Wolves in America: How to Make a Bomb in Your Kitchen, to Create Scenes of Horror in Tourist Spots and Other Targets.”
This is why we must immediately cut off the ISIS funding stream and bring sanctions against the countries supporting ISIS and enabling the sale of black market oil — estimated to yield revenues of some $1 million per day. These economic resources allow ISIS to develop this extensive recruiting effort and provide transportation for these cretins to join this terrorist army.
Fox says “Thousands of western jihadists, mostly from Europe, have flocked to Syria and Iraq to join the Islamic State, particularly since it announced it has established a caliphate of Sharia law. U.S. officials have said “dozens” of Americans are believed to have went overseas, and two men with ties to the Minneapolis area, Douglas McAuthur McCain and Abdirahmaan Muhumed, have been killed in battle in Syria.”
“According to court documents seen by the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Elfgeeh tried to raise money to enable a Yemeni man to join ISIS. At one point, Elfgeeh allegedly sent the man $600 to travel from Yemen to Syria. An FBI affidavit alleges that this past April, Elfgeeh traveled to Buffalo with an FBI informant to get a passport for the latter man. Elfgeeh suggested that ISIS would use the informant to “operate a cannon, act as a sniper and/or build bombs,” the document claims.”It is imperative that we cut off all possible venues for recruitment in the U.S. for jihadists. That means we must be walking the dog back on individuals such as those from Minneapolis killed in Syria fighting for ISIS and surveil their associations and oft-frequented Islamic centers and mosques — no more PC. “Disrupting and holding accountable those who seek to provide material support to foreign terrorist organizations is and shall remain a critical national security priority,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Carlin. The investigation included linking Elfgeeh’s home computer to tweets from alias Twitter accounts expressing support for al-Qaida, violent holy war and Sunni insurgent groups in Syria, according to court papers. One message allegedly from Elfgeeh read, “al-Qaida said it loud and clear; we are fighting the American invasion and their hegemony over the earth and the people.”
Any strategy to defeat ISIS must have a homeland component as well — including our border security. I continue to hear liberal pundits who portray me and others as war- and fear mongers, but seem to believe it’s best to dismiss this enemy. Other believe taking any actions to combat ISIS only makes them angrier and more likely to hate us. Message to the progressive socialists — especially Code Pink — they have always hated us and how much angrier can you get than to behead someone?
We can face this enemy, this truly global Islamo-fascist enemy, now or face them later, when they have gained even more strength. People say we have to fight them over there before they come here. My true concern is that they — Islamic jihadists — are already here and more deeply entrenched than we imagine. And to make matters worse, it seems we don’t even want to fight them over there either.
