If you’re a fan of college football, you were tuned into Columbus, Ohio this past Saturday where the number two Ohio State Buckeyes took on their arch rivals the number three Michigan Wolverines. This is a historic rivalry and it was the tenth anniversary of their meeting in Ohio, in the big horseshoe, where Saturday some 110,000 gathered.
The game lived up to all of the hype — often these games do not. Ohio State tied the game in the fourth quarter, and won it in the second overtime with a touchdown scamper by their tailback. And so the euphoria could be felt as the students stormed the field and surrounded their winning team. I can only imagine the atmosphere on the campus of The Ohio State University that Saturday, carrying over to Sunday… and then the unthinkable happened yesterday.
As you all by now know, (per USA Today), “An Ohio State student crashed his vehicle into pedestrians on the Columbus campus Monday, then slashed students with a butcher knife before being fatally shot by a university police officer. Eleven people were rushed to hospitals and one was in critical condition, according to university Police Chief Craig Stone. Monica Moll, the university’s public safety director, identified the assailant as Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a student at the school. Multiple media outlets including NBC News and the Associated Press, citing sources who requested anonymity, described him as an native of Somalia living in the United States as a legal permanent resident. The Associated Press reported he is 20 years old.
Adam Schiff of California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said that while the bloodshed is still under investigation, it “bears all of the hallmarks of a terror attack carried out by someone who may have been self-radicalized.”
“Here in the United States, our most immediate threat still comes from lone attackers that are not only capable of unleashing great harm, but are also extremely difficult, and in some cases, virtually impossible to identify or interdict,” he said.”
It appears that Abdul Artan was a legal resident of Somali descent who came to the United States via Pakistan. “The Associated Press reported that Ohio State’s student newspaper, The Lantern, ran an interview in August with a student named Abdul Razak Artan, who identified himself as a Muslim and a third-year logistics management student who had just transferred from Columbus State in the fall. He said he was looking for a place to pray openly and worried about how he would be received.
“I was kind of scared with everything going on in the newspaper. “If people look at me, a Muslim praying, I don’t know what they’re going to think, what’s going to happen. But I don’t blame them. It’s the media that put that picture in their heads.”

I can almost guarantee someone from the progressive socialist left is going to blame us, Americans, for creating a paranoia in Artan’s head. You can just imagine how the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR) is going to spin this using the tired, denigrating and misleading moniker of “Islamophobia.”
And just wait, there will be some leftist media personality who will give a commentary blaming Donald Trump and his “rhetoric.” Once again, just as with San Bernardino, Orlando, Oklahoma and Chattanooga, there will be an excuse, and a demand that we do not rush to any judgment. And I wonder if Black Lives Matter will stage a protest about this police officer shooting a black male armed with only a knife.
Remember the Obama administration still refers to the 2009 Islamic jihadist attack of Nidal Hasan at Ft. Hood as “workplace violence.” And never forget it was Obama’s first secretary of homeland security, Janet Napolitano, who rebranded terrorist attacks as man-caused disasters. Honestly, thank God we are ridding ourselves of this pestilence of obfuscation and denial.
But there’s a greater issue we need to assess, which is the Somali refugee community in the United States. This is a residual effect from the policy of a previous Clinton presidency — Bill – and thank God we staved off another epidemic via his spouse, Hillary Clinton.
It was Bill Clinton who opened up America to Somali refugees. And consider that just this year there have been nine or ten indictments of support to Islamic terrorism by Somalis. Also, this hotbed of Islamic jihadist recruiting is based in the congressional district represented by one Keith Ellison, that fella seeking to be the chairman of the Democrat National Committee.
It was just a month or so ago that a Somali male assailed and stabbed Americans shopping at Crossroads Mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota..y’all forgot that one I suppose? I don’t blame you, the media news cycle has the attention span of a gnat. So, there’s something horribly wrong in this community here in America, and it’s time we own up to it.
Also, it was ISIS calling for such attacks in their online magazines and on social media. Consider that Artan drove his vehicle up onto the curb in order to run over students. This is exactly what ISIS was calling for, and is exactly what happened in Nice, France on their celebration of Independence Day. Perhaps Artan was driven to destroy the happiness and joy that continued on the campus because of the victory over Michigan. And the use of stabbings — just the same as the mall attack in Minnesota. Now, we have law enforcement officials who continue to give us the tired ol’ line of “we’re looking into investigating the motive.”
The motive couldn’t be any clearer: Artan was an Islamic jihadist, no telling what happened in the time period that he spent in Pakistan before coming to America.
I’m waiting for Barack Obama to come out and talk about car and knife control and how we need to ban both…you know, after San Bernardino and Orlando it was all about gun control.
Perhaps finally we will focus on the root cause: Islamic jihadism, Islamo-fascism, Islamism, and call it as it is. However, somehow, Abdul Artan will end up being the victim, just as the left tried to do the same with the Tsarnaev Brothers, and even glorified one on the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine.
Maybe these young people, college students, like the ones who walked out on my address at St. Louis University all because they hated the words “radical Islam” will start to awaken — or maybe not. Perhaps they’re just lemmings looking for a binky, safe spaces, and warm cocoa. One thing is for certain, we have the opportunity to have a Secretary of Homeland Security who will get this, and will not sit down and give audience to Islamist groups like the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).
No, this is not about “profiling.” It’s about “trend analysis,” paying attention to what the enemy says they’re going to do, and not dismissing it. If we fail to do so, there will be more “soft targets” who will be attacked.
