School forces students to recite “Islam is great.” When a MARINE father hears about it…

I know most folks are focused on the GOP debate from last night and the impending “Super Tuesday” contest next week. However, I came across a story that is very disconcerting and for me represents something far more threatening to the fabric of America. I just want to know, when did it happen that schools can restrain the rights of a parent?

As reported by the Washington Post, “John Kevin Wood says his daughter’s school has banned him from campus for more than a year, illegally punishing him for raising objections to classroom lessons about Islam. Now he’s gone to court for help, asking a judge to remove the ban so he can watch his daughter graduate from high school.

“She’s in the final semester of her senior year, and as it stands right now, she’s going to have to go through that life experience without her dad there,” said Kate Oliveri, a lawyer from the Michigan-based Thomas More Law Center who is representing the Wood family.

The dispute dates to October 2014, when Wood’s daughter showed him several assignments for her 11th grade World History class at La Plata High in Charles County, Md. She had been asked to memorize the Five Pillars of Islam. She had been asked to write and recite the shahada, the Muslim statement of faith: There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. She had been taught, according to school papers submitted to federal court, that most Muslims’ faith is “stronger than the average Christian.”

The lessons also taught that Islam was a “peaceful religion,” court papers say, and that “jihad” is a “holy war waged on behalf of Islam as a religious duty; a personal struggle in devotion to Islam especially involving spiritual discipline.” Wood is a Marine veteran who had lost two buddies in combat in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm.

The school wasn’t just teaching Islam but was promoting it, it seemed to Wood, and in a way that amounted to an assault on his family’s Christian faith.”

My first point is, how can a school ban a parent from a campus just because he objects and makes a complaint about a specific measure of curriculum being taught to his child? Unless there was some physical altercation and threat levied by Mr. Wood, how can the school violate his rights as a parent?

Secondly, just imagine what would happen if the lesson was about Christianity and was based on the confession of faith in Paul’s letter to the Romans Chapter 10? We’ve shared countless times about the Freedom from Religion Foundation and their lawfare assaults against schools regarding “separation of church and state.” Remember the story from Madison County, Georgia where they protested a monument at the high school football stadium that featured the verse from Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” They demanded the monument, purchased and built by private funds, be removed. Or how about the Christian football coach who was assailed for praying with his players?

So, where is the outrage from the FFRF? C’mon, they went after Clemson University and my alma mater the University of Tennessee (and they NEED prayer right now).

Why is it that Islam gets the “get out of jail free” card and in this case, a parent gets punished? But not just any ol’ parent, a former Marine. And I can also speak from experience here, because after retiring from the Army, I taught World History at Deerfield Beach High School in Florida. I don’t recall any lesson where I needed to have students recite the “shahada” or discuss the five pillars of Islam. Then again, I was teaching and educating, not indoctrinating.

Why is it that the progressive socialist left is always so concerned about Christian extremism and “fanaticism” when it’s apparent that Presbyterians aren’r shooting up Christmas parties in San Bernardino? Why do we always hear the excuses and dismissals — such as the abhorrent behavior, sexual assaults and rapes happening in Germany, Sweden, and Norway?

Doggone, you can’t even offer Christian prayer in schools these days, so how is it that the Islamic statement of faith must be recited by students? And again, what did Mr. Wood do that would warrant a school banning him? To think this man who served his nation in combat, as we remember the 25th anniversary of Desert Storm, is being kept from attending the graduation of his own child. All because he dared to challenge the progressive socialist orthodoxy?

Parents, be careful! There’s something happening in America which is antithetical to our culture and existence. Our children are being indoctrinated, not educated. They’re being led towards a certain end and it’s one that doesn’t allow for open debate and or challenging assertions — can’t violate safe spaces, after all.

There’s a movement ongoing that seems to make our Judeo-Christian faith heritage subservient. There’s a movement that, to paraphrase myself, makes tolerance becomes a one-way street, leading to cultural suicide and it’s undermining our way of life. What has happened to the Wood family should send chills down the spines of all American parents — that is if you still have a spine.

How did we come to this point in our Republic?
