I have a MAJOR announcement to share with y’all…

As you’re reading this today, my wife Angela and I have probably just landed in Louisville, Kentucky for the NRA Annual meeting. This will be my first NRA gathering and I am a proud Life and Endowment Member of the National Rifle Association.

But on this day I am honored to say I have been elected for a three-year term to the NRA Board of Directors. I want to thank all of you out there who submitted my name by petition to be on the ballot and considered for this esteemed position.

Ya know, ain’t America just doggone grand? Here’s a young fella from Buttermilk Bottom, Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward, who will now be seated as a board member for the organization that protects our cherished, individual, unalienable right to bear arms.

You may ask why is this important to me. Well, it’s simple: because an unarmed American is a subject, but an armed American is a citizen. There’s a huge difference and I express that sentiment based on the assertions of our Founding Fathers.

“A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined…”

– George Washington, First Annual Address, to both House of Congress, January 8, 1790

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

– Thomas Jefferson, Virginia Constitution, Draft 1, 1776

“I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.”

– Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, January 30, 1787

“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.”

– Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787

“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
– Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776

“A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.”
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 19, 1785

I know the retort from the progressive socialist detractors: these were just old white men who aren’t relevant to today. Well, hate to tell y’all but the woman who will soon be featured on the $20 bill, Harriett Tubman, would undoubtedly be a member of the NRA today. She understood that freedom and liberty had to be won not just by rhetoric, but by armed resistance when necessary. Liberal cupcakes might be shocked to know Bernie Sanders own guns, and even ultra liberal MSNBC host and LGBT activist Rachel Maddow loves going to gun ranges.

As an NRA Board member I hope to enable all Americans to understand that without the Second Amendment, they have no First Amendment. I want all Americans, especially those in the inner cities, not to be held captive, enslaved to the violent criminal element that plagues their communities. I want them to be able and confident to stand up and defend themselves because they cannot carry a law enforcement officer on their hip.

I want young black men and women to be as George Washington stated, “disciplined” and not see having a gun as a means by which they intimidate or find some sense of power to accommodate their low esteem.

I want them to learn how to harness their emotions through the proper use of a firearm for a positive purpose. In my time as an NRA board member, I hope to have the first black marksman champion and Olympian. I want to see a young black man become one of the most renowned marksmen and snipers in U.S. military history. I want to turn them away from the destructive behavior of gangs and focus them towards the real enemies of our Constitutional Republic — that is if they truly want to discharge a weapon towards someone in combat.

Most importantly, I want to be an integral part of the rebranding of the NRA and its changing face. And I will do so boldly and unapologetically. This is such an incredible opportunity that I will not take for granted nor waste.

I will challenge this notion that the Supreme Court can tell our states they must abide by a ruling – because the SCOTUS does not make law — and conduct same-sex marriages. However, when it comes to the Second Amendment, we have states and municipalities that defy our Constitution, denying Americans of their Second Amendment rights. You cannot use the “equal protection clause” of the 14th Amendment for some, nor believe the SCOTUS can create a right based on sexual behavior while denying Americans a long-standing constitutional right by which they are endowed.

I am the NRA and indeed, I am freedom’s last stand. And I will forever be the “Guardian of the Republic.

Steadfast and Loyal! See y’all in Louisville.
