I’ve discussed the subject of allowing illegal aliens to serve in our U.S. military here as well as with Jeannine Piro on her Fox News program, Justice with Jeannine. The topic appears to be coming to head in D.C.
At the end of last week, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala) brought forth an amendment to the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on the subject. As reported by Breitbart.com, “The House voted to strip language from the National Defense Authorization Act that would have called on the Pentagon to consider allowing illegal immigrants granted executive amnesty — via Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)— to serve in the U.S. military.
The Thursday evening vote — in the form of an amendment to the NDAA — was 221 – 202. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala) introduced the amendment in response to the insertion of the language by Rep, Ruben Gallego (D-Az) during the NDAA’s committee mark up. Brooks and a group of House conservatives charged that the NDAA was an inappropriate vehicle for Gallego’s amendment and that the measure threatened the bill’s ultimate passage.”
“In a “Dear Colleague” letter to House members Thursday, Brooks stressed that the language put the interests of illegal immigrants above American citizens and validated President Obama’s executive amnesty. “I submit we are in Congress to represent and promote the interests of Americans,” Brooks wrote. “In contrast, Rep. Gallego’s amendment does not, in any way, shape or form, represent or promote the interests of Americans. To the contrary, Gallego’s amendment betrays Americans by encouraging the Secretary of Defense to hire illegal aliens rather than Americans.”
If you recall, President Obama had considered ordering military recruiters to enlist illegal aliens into our armed services – now that I think about it, was there any recognition from the commander-in-chief on Saturday for Armed Services Day? I had originally addressed the illegality of Obama’s order to the military, and it seemed the issue had died. However, the perverse attempt to use the NDAA as a means by which to permit amnesty is unconscionable and evidences the absurd politicization of our military by liberal progressives.Consider this simple premise: how is it that we would allow those to enter into military service for our Republic when their very existence here has been in complete disregard and disrespect to the rule of law, the U.S. Constitution, which they are supposed to take an oath to support and defend? Furthermore, I find it perplexing that when we are currently drawing down our military, basically forcing American citizens — men and women — out of the military, we want to enlist illegals to serve? Something totally stinks about that and it makes absolutely no reasonable sense whatsoever. What we should all ask, is why have those chosen to be elected representatives of the American people decided that our military service should be “outsourced” to illegal aliens? The fact that some 202 individuals voted to allow illegal aliens to serve in our military is disturbing. Uniformed service to our nation is not some favor to grant, especially to those who displayed no allegiance to our fundamental laws.
We have enough Americans — and legal immigrants — who wish to serve this nation and are willing to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. I for one have become sick and tired of this made up term “dreamers.” Our American children are dreamers, and many dream of following in the footsteps of family members and serving our country as Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen.
And in typical liberal progressive socialist fashion it was all about name-calling and not honoring allegiance and service to our nation. “Democrats slammed the effort to remove the deferred action language as “anti-immigrant.”
“This is yet another example of anti-immigrant attitude on the part of the House Republicans,” House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (R-CA) said Thursday before the vote. “We have even seen them try to reverse the constitutional birthright of a person born in America being a citizen – this xenophobic, anti-newcomer attitude is something that is un-American. And now of course we have this attempt today to reverse the success Mr. Gallego had in committee,” Pelosi added.”
First of all, the Democrats and Ms. Pelosi should read the Constitution and Article I, Section 8, Clause 4 which articulates that only the Congress has the enumerated power to deal in matter of naturalization — not the president.
Therefore his entire DACA executive order is just as illegal as those he is trying to make cover. Secondly, the Rep. Brooks amendment is not anti-immigrant nor is the attitude of the GOP anti-immigrant. It is the attitude of the Democrat Party that is pro-illegal and that undermines the sovereignty of our Constitutional Republic — then again, they seem to be about a fundamental transformation of America.
Lastly, serving in our military is not a constitutional birthright in the same way a person born in America is a citizen. The 14th Amendment was intended for the children of the freed black slaves, but sadly the liberal progressives have perverted even that for their own politicized purposes.
Following the same old tactics, the Democrats seek to force their agenda by coercion, intimidation and vile, vitriolic name-calling — racist, sexist, and of course now “xenophobic.” This is not about anti-newcomer, it is about supporting American citizens or those who seek to be American citizens who have pursued the legal means to do so.
It makes no sense to issue pink slips to Americans serving in our Armed Services while seeking out out illegal aliens to serve. Perhaps there is another agenda the liberal progressives are pushing…
