Here’s the most important thing YOU can do in 2016 (other than vote)

I’ve earned many titles in my life but this past Saturday in Williamsburg, Virginia I had the pleasure of donning a special title. I was the Saturday evening keynote speaker for the “Leaders Inspiring Faith and Freedom to America” summit. I am the honorary chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation (CPCF), and have been for three years. I can’t think of a more important duty right now in America than to make a stand for religious liberty in our Republic. It’s one of our First Amendment freedoms in that’s squarely in the sights of the secular humanists, enabled by the progressive socialists. The co-chairmen of the CPCF are Oklahoma Senator James Lankford and Virginia Congressman Randy Forbes. The president/executive director is the phenomenal Lea Carawan.

The theme of my presentation Saturday evening before a gathering of state legislators and Christian leaders was “The actions that make a difference.” One of those attending was the sheriff of York County Virginia, Sheriff J.D. “Danny” Diggs. Here was a man who took an action that sincerely made a difference.

Sheriff Diggs had the national motto painted onto every one of the York County sheriff’s department vehicles. For those of you unaware, the national motto is “In God we trust.” Now of course he took lots of heat for this, mostly from that group in Madison, Wisconsin, the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF).

Interesting…the FFRF has nothing to say about a High School in Maryland that has children learning the five pillars of Islam and reciting the Muslim statement of faith…we shared that story last week.

We in America are being falsely led to believe “separation of church and state” means we must separate our Judeo-Christian faith heritage from the fabric of our nation. If we submit to that, then we become the antithesis of who we are and what we were intended to be.

First of all, separation of church and state is not part of any of our founding documents. It’s not found in the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers, and certainly not the U.S. Constitution. The concept of separation of church and state is found in a letter by a great Virginian, Thomas Jefferson, written to the Danbury (Connecticut) Baptist Convention. The general premise was that in America we would not have a head of state who was also a head of the church — the lesson learned from King Henry VIII and the establishment of the Church of England.

This is what the establishment clause is all about: the state not establishing a religion. But foolishly we’re allowing the secular humanists to force us to believe that separation of church and state in America means we cannot publicly display our religious beliefs. The Constitution grants the freedom of religion and the free exercise thereof. Secular humanists tend to embrace a belief of freedom FROM religion — and they promote, very virulently, a sense of eradicating religion from the public sphere.

In essence what the secular humanists believe is that there is freedom of worship, but it must be contained in designated places of worship. You are not allowed to pray in schools, in public, and as Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation has stated, those members of the military who “proselytize” their faith are guilty of treason and sedition and should be court-martialed. He demanded such be the punishment for an Air Force Major General who spoke of his faith, in uniform, at the National Prayer Day.

The actions that make a difference mean we as the Christian community must go on offense to fight for our religious freedoms. We cannot sit back and allow judicial activists to redefine marriage so that the state, i.e. government, now punishes bakers in Oregon, florists in Washington, and a portrait studio owner in New Mexico. We cannot win on defense.

Furthermore, Christians cannot sit back and not participate in the electoral process as they did in the presidential election of 2012, where millions didn’t register or vote. When the Christian community fails to vote, the global effect is that Christians in the Middle East are persecuted, crucified, beheaded, raped, and sold in to slavery. When Christians didn’t vote in 2012 they allowed someone to be president who is an Islamist sympathizer and has allowed the rise of the most savage and barbaric of Islamic jihadist groups. When Christians didn’t vote in 2012 it resulted in no Christians being in Mosul, Iraq for the first time in 2000 years.

Saturday evening I spoke from Joshua Chapter One verses 5-9 where God tells Joshua three times to “Be strong and of good courage.” The actions that make a difference mean Christians taking heed of that request from God to be strong and of good courage. It means not being fearful but putting on the full armor of God as it states in Ephesians 6:10-18. It means realizing, as it says in Isaiah 54:17 (NIV), “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD.”

Now of course the secular humanist progressive left will say I’m advocating for a theocracy. That’s their fear-mongering tactic to try and array opposition towards Christians — kinda like Nero blaming Christians for his failures. We must not allow the Judeo-Christian God to be removed from the public sphere of America and relegated to some backbench. Our unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness do not emanate, are not endowed to us by man, but by the Creator. We sing “God bless America” — not government bless America. We must never betray the founding principles of this Constitutional Republic and therefore we must take action and make a difference for future generations and the preservation of this blessed land.

And so, here is a simple action that every one of you can take. Go to and get your “In God We Trust” window decal and become a part of the million window campaign. As it says on the website, “There’s no need to be quiet any longer. “In God We Trust” is more than just our national motto – it’s our country’s foundation and part of our identity as Americans. Since The House of Representatives passed H.Con.Res.13 with an overwhelming 396/9 vote in November, 2011, reaffirming our national motto and encouraging its public display, elected leaders and citizens have taken action to display “In God We Trust” in government buildings, courtrooms, schools and businesses.”

This year, July 30th is the 60th anniversary of President Eisenhower making “In God We Trust” our national motto. Let us take the action to affirm this and proclaim it all across our land, just as the Liberty Bell sounded the clarion call of our freedom.

Be strong and courageous for the Lord our God shall never leave us nor forsake us. But if we kneel in subjugation and allow the secular humanist progressives on the left to continue the march towards making America a socialist state, we will not live in an atmosphere of religious liberty but rather forced to hide our faith.

Secularism – socialism — does not embrace the Christian faith, and never has, because as Karl Marx stated, “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.” Our Judeo-Christian faith heritage is about bringing redemption to man in a heartless and soulless world and restoring the right relationship with our Heavenly Father.

Never forget it was at the Democrat National Committee convention in Charlotte, NC in 2012 where they had to vote to add God back into their platform, and folks booed. I implore you to take actions that make a difference and stand for our religious liberty. In God, not man, do we the people of these United States of America trust.
