Goodlatte is simply wrong about impeachment

I know House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va) is a very competent and astute legislator and capable chairman. However, he just made a statement this past Sunday regarding impeachment that is blatantly and horribly wrong.

As reported by National Review, “Representative Bob Godlatte (R., Va.) does not believe President Obama has done anything that would merit impeachment under the Constitution. “We are not working on or drawing up articles of impeachment,” Goodlatte, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, told George Stephanopoulos on This Week Sunday. “The Constitution is very clear as to what constitutes grounds for impeachment of the president of the United States,” Goodlatte continued. “He has not committed the kind of criminal acts that call for that.”

I wrote a very specific case for impeachment here as it pertained to the president unilaterally negotiating with a terrorist organization for release of senior Taliban leaders. If that does not define “aiding and abetting the enemy” and “providing material support and comfort to the enemy” then what does?

As a matter of fact, arming Islamist militia in Libya and utilizing American military resources to support their goals, aims and objectives can be considered as well. Supporting the Muslim Brotherhood government of Egypt falls into the same category.

So If Chairman Goodlatte wanted to say he didn’t believe it to be a politically viable course of action at this time, that would have been a better response — purely political but better. Chairman Goodlatte’s statement reflects a poor knowledge and understanding of the impeachment declaration of “high crimes and misdemeanors” — of which such treasonous actions and breaking of U.S. Code certainly applies. Even worse, Goodlatte’s response evidences a cowardice that continues to enable Barack Hussein Obama to act in the most lawless of manner because he knows he has the ultimate “get out of jail free card” — his skin color.

Fear paralyzes and that shouldn’t be the case, because no one person is greater than our Constitutional Republic and cannot abjectly disregard and disrespect our rule of law. However, when “content of character” means nothing because we judge by color of skin then — as Benjamin Franklin asserted — “we get the government we deserve.” And when we have elected officials lacking principled moral courage then it is the people who suffer — not they who enjoy the arrogance of officialdom.

Chairman Goodlatte, my former colleague, you are wrong, President Obama has done far more than President Nixon and President Clinton. You all just don’t have the courage to do anything about it — and not some frivolous lawsuit –the Founding Fathers gave you a process.
