I am sitting here on Cayman Brac in my room looking out over the Caribbean Sea. Unfortunately, due to a pretty major tropical storm there was no diving today, Sunday, with the Cayman Brac Reef Divers and the Dive Pirates. The most important thing was to get everyone here safely, especially those confined to wheelchairs, which due to the high winds and seas, would not have been safe for adaptive divers. So I sit listening to the winds and surf on a tranquil Fathers Day 2017.
Today I fly back from this little piece of paradise back into the maelstrom of the toxic political environment of America. Yes, back to dealing with policy, politics, and procedures, when we need true statesmen and leaders who can govern our Constitutional Republic. And even though I sit here bummed that I won’t get the chance to dive with US Army SSG Luke Murphy and his wife, a charming young couple from Florida, things could be so much worse. I continue to think about and pray for my former colleague, Rep. Steve Scalise, who was viciously shot last week while preparing for the annual Congressional baseball game. Again, my thoughts and prayers are lifted up for Steve to pull though and have a full recovery.
And so as I head back to Dallas, I’m reading about the responses from the left regarding this shooting. It’s as if some folks just don’t know when to shut up. There was commentary from some group called Fusion who referred to Rep. Scalise as a homophobe after his shooting. Then there’s the sporty chap, a Democrat strategist, who put out the hashtag campaig about hunting Republicans. And from Nebraska I found these very disturbing social media comments.
As reported by the Omaha World-Herald, “A Nebraska Democratic Party official has refused calls to resign her volunteer position after calling reactions to this week’s shooting of a high-ranking Republican member of Congress “so funny” on social media.
Chelsey Gentry-Tipton of Omaha said in statement that she will not resign as chairwoman of the party’s Black Caucus, saying her post was taken out of context by party officials. The Nebraska party’s leadership asked Gentry-Tipton to step down Wednesday, several hours after she wrote, in a Facebook thread about the shooting at in Alexandria, Virginia, “Watching the congressman crying on live tv abt the trauma they experienced. Y is this so funny tho?” Later, in the same thread, she stated, “The very people that push pro NRA legislation in efforts to pad their pockets with complete disregard for human life. Yeah, having a hard time feeling bad for them.”
In this instance, I am reminded of the words of Solomon in Proverbs 17:28, (New American Standard Bible), “Even a fool, when he keeps silent is considered wise; When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent.”The ol’ folks down South used to say it like this: “better for a fool to keep their mouth shut, rather than opening it and confirming the fact.”
Needless to say, that goes along with the use of social media as well, as evidenced by Ms. Gentry-Tipton of Omaha. Perhaps Warren Buffet can give her a call and persuade her to do the honorable thing: step aside.
Ya just gotta ask, is there functional brain activity going on here? Why would anyone make a comment about the potential mass shooting of members of Congress other than express their sorrow and condolence? Some folks need to heed the maxim of, “if you don’t have anything good to say, then don’t say anything.”
And for Ms. Gentry-Tipton to use this sad incident as a means to levy some sick politicized assault on the National Rifle Association is ignorant. Needless to say, apparently she doesn’t believe the Second Amendment is an individual right. And that Americans have an individual right to protect and defend themselves – after all, life is our first unalienable right. Perhaps she should realize before making her odious and insensitive remarks that these were unarmed vulnerable Members of Congress, who but for the saving grace of two Capitol Hill Police officers would have been mercilessly picked off.
We continue to witness the dehumanization of anyone opposing the progressive socialist agenda in order to make them targets of these types of individuals. To say, as Ms. Gentry-Tipton did, that Mr. Hodgkinson could have been someone that was going to be affected by the repeal and replace of Obamacare is an argument of folly. So, should those of us who’ve had our taxes raised — after all we need to just take from those considered “rich” defined by the left as those making at or above a $250,000 level — then go out and target those liberal progressives responsible for that happening?
Should those who’ve seen their health insurance premiums rise astronomically use violence against those who imposed such laws and edicts? No, of course not, that’s where the legislative process comes in and our right in a liberal democratic state to vote out those who propose those ideas that are against our best interests.
But it appears for the left, that’s not the viable course of action, theirs is a “by any means necessary” method of attaining political power. Their ideas fail but we, as free people, are not supposed to oppose them. We are subjects, not citizens, in their eyes. Therefore, when the American people use the democratic process of voting and let their voices be heard, the response of progressive socialists is to unleash government institutions on them, such as the IRS targeting of grassroots conservative groups.
It’s through voter intimidation antics, such as the New Black Panthers back in 2008. And when all else seems to fail, it’s via violence such as we are witnessing with the rise of the antifa movement and “resistance” with their destruction of property and threats of individual harm. What we witnessed last week in Alexandria, Virginia is the next level. And when there are these unrepentant liberal progressives out and about making these statements, such as Ms. Gentry-Tipton, it will only fuel the next assault.
As long as the left continues its propaganda drivel, accusing constitutional conservatives, Republicans, of these three words resulting from their policy/legislative agenda. –“people will die”, –this will only exacerbate itself. Remember when Democrat Representative Alan Grayson said the Republican healthcare plan was for people to die, and die quickly? The over-the-top rhetoric from Democrats about women will die, children will go hungry and die, the unconscionable commercial of a Paul Ryan lookalike pushing an elderly woman over a cliff from her wheelchair. That is the problem Ms. Gentry-Tipton, just like your social media tweets. Y’all are inspiring and fomenting violence against those who disagree with you politically — that does not end well. Especially when you seek such designs on power by way of disarming the law-abiding citizens and legal gun owners.
If Ms. Chelsey Gentry-Tipton doesn’t step down from a leadership position in the Nebraska Democrat Party, we can only surmise her thoughts and perspectives are indeed reflective of the Nebraska Democrat Party — perhaps the entire Democrat Party. After all, the progressive socialist left believes in the all-encompassing power of the collective, not individual rights. Therefore, it appears collectively the way forward for the left in this country will be more coercion, threat, intimidation, and if necessary, violence in order to achieve their goal: the fundamental transformation of the United States of America.
