When the Supreme Court decided in Brown vs the Board of Education that “separate but equal” would no longer apply to our education system, in effect ushering in school desegregation, some states stood against the ruling. The federal government stepped in, and in Little Rock, Arkansas, a Republican president nationalized the National Guard to enforce the rule of law, the “law of the land.”
Fast forward a few decades. The Supreme Court decides in Obergfell vs Hodges that marriage is a right, and that all states must comply with the “law of the land.” Of course it’s still perplexing that we have a Second Amendment right, enshrined in our original Constitutional bill of rights, but the progressive socialist left does not consider it the “law of the land.” And what is even more hypocritical, and abjectly disturbing, is that we have a legal system for immigration, yet the liberal progressive left tells us there is no rule of law when it comes to illegal immigration. Consider this distressing report coming from a state, that I must admit, appears to be the largest concentration of incompetence and idiocy: California.
As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, “The City Council in Sacramento, Calif. voted unanimously late Thursday to spend taxpayer money on services to help illegal immigrants fight deportation.
A network of legal, educational, and faith-based nonprofit groups will receive $300,000 to assist immigrants with a variety of issues, not just deportation, the Sacramento Bee reported. The funds would likely be available within a month, according to Sacramento Councilman Eric Guerra. “The reality is there is a lot of fear,” Guerra said. “We can alleviate that fear.”
The funding would help children of illegal immigrants by providing them legal guardianships. Immigrants could also protect their bank accounts and homes with city-funded powers of attorney. The nonprofits receiving funding would educate immigrants on their rights as well. Guerra, who led a task force that proposed allocating the city’s funds, justified the decision by pointing out that illegal immigrants often pay taxes and contribute to the economy. One board member of the Sacramento Republican Woman Federated called the council’s decision “disgusting.” “I don’t think that taxpayer money should be used to support this. I’d rather it be given to the homeless,” Jennifer Garets told the Bee.”
Let me get this right, the capital city of the state of California city council just voted, unanimously, to use taxpayer funds to support illegal immigrants? Now, someone please explain to me how that is anything other than what 19th century French economist Frederic Bastiat described as misconceived benevolence enabled by “legal plunder?”I wholeheartedly concur with Ms. Jennifer Garets, and this Councilman Guerra is once again using the lame leftist excuse that illegals pay taxes: how? Are they filing state or federal income tax statements? And if they are, they’re breaking the law by using illegal tax identification or social security numbers — then again California provides illegals with picture identification, so no doubt they’re voting as well. Councilman Guerra fails to understand the crux of the issue: these individuals are in America illegally, and I’m quite sure the amount of remittances being sent back to Mexico is rather high. Perhaps these remittances, which are in the billions annually, should be taxed, at a 39 percent rate. After all, that’s what we’re forcing our businesses and corporations to pay…and they are legal.
But something else that sticks in my craw about this measure. Why not use the tax dollars in Sacramento to take care of our veterans, especially homeless veterans? Well it’s simple: that’s not a priority for the liberal progressive left.Constitutional conservatives need to challenge the progressive socialist left, in that they cannot have things both ways to appease their agenda. The rule of law in America is definitive, the Constitution, along with US Code, and it prescribes the terms and definitions of citizenship. It also defines our sovereignty and that which the federal and state governments must do in order to protect lawful natural born and naturalized citizens of these United States.
If the left believes they can declare same-sex marriage the “law of the land” yet disregard all other “laws of our land,” they make themselves irrelevant hypocrites. If same-sex marriage is the law of the land, then so is the Second Amendment, so stop with the infringement. And if we have laws about immigration, which is an Article I congressional enumerated power — not executive — then it must be respected by all.
So are our laws on immigration the “law of the land” or do we have a case of selective legality courtesy of our leftist progressive socialist friends? The federal government nationalized and dispatched forces to ensure compliance by states who tried to defy laws supporting racial integration. Then why is it that the left believes the federal government cannot demand lower levels of governance adhere to our rule of law?
Again, we MUST stop allowing the left to pick and choose what they believe is a right or a law. If I were President Trump, this judge, an Obama appointee, who ruled that the president cannot freeze/cut off federal funding to states and municipalities embracing sanctuary city status for illegals — would have been disregarded. The president is the chief executive officer of the federal government, and of course is well within his constitutional enumerated powers to cut off funding to an entity dismissing federal law.
This Sacramento city council decision reminds me of the one made by the Seattle city council regarding the establishment of a “gun violence tax.” Yes, their city council voted to impose a new tax against law-abiding legal gun owners as a collateral punishment to compensate victims of gun violence. First of all, that’s the most ludicrous and insidious reasoning I’ve ever heard. Secondly, if the cupcake anti-gun left would stop infringing on gun ownership, perhaps there would be less gun violence, which seems concentrated in those places with the most restrictive laws against gun ownership. And now we have this Sacramento city council using taxation as a weapon and forcing law-abiding citizens to compensate those in their community illegally. What type of stupid is this? A very special kind of stupid.
Last week when I was at the NRA Annual meeting and convention, I ran into folks from California, and they just shook their heads. I cannot fathom why any freedom loving American would live in California. But the real sad part of this is these chuckleheads think they’re doing something right! And what’s worse, you have Californians departing the state and heading to other states, like Texas, and like locusts, seeking to destroy the status quo and make it like where they just left.
This is exactly what happened to Colorado, Nevada, Arizona and Montana to an extent is experiencing the same, and now Washington state. It makes one believe the number one export crop of California is stupidity — of a liberal progressive type, the worst.
Now imagine, we once had true patriots who got so riled up about taxation that they threw a bunch of expensive tea into a harbor. I have to wonder what it will take to get folks in California to say “enough” or is it that there aren’t enough classical liberals, liberty-loving patriots remaining in the state of California to make a difference? If the latter is truer than the former, what shall become of California? What happens when the day comes for California to ask for a federal government bailout — several of its cities have danced with bankruptcy declarations. Yes, California has given us the highly intellectual and astute representatives such as Pelosi, Waters, Lee, Boxer, Waxman, Feinstein, and now Harris…oh boy, a winning combination huh?
The real issue here is that we need courageous leadership to force the left in America to realize there are consequences to their decisions. It’s time to stop allowing the progressive socialist left to define and determine what is a right. It’s time we stop allowing them to pick and choose what they believe is a law. If the left wants to play this game of chicken called “resistance” it is time they got a lesson on resistance from modern day classical liberals who believe in true individual sovereignty and liberty. It’s time we stop trying to play fair and nice, and just defeat the agenda of the progressive socialist left.
The Sacramento city council is just another example of how unhinged the liberal progressive left has truly become. Time to get some new hinges, and slam the door shut on these imbeciles who seek to make our America more like their once dreamed of socialist utopia: Venezuela.
